playing catch-up
Ugh!
It's been such a stupidly busy week, with an emphasis on the stupid part. Basically I've had exactly ZERO time for myself to read, etc. I'm woefully behind on fests, LJ in general, your personal posts, etc. It fucking sucks. BUT, it's a holiday weekend and we've got very little planned so I'm super hoping to catch up on all the awesome Tropes, BBTP and Drizzle out there. I feel so disconnected!
On a slightly different note, I did just finish listening to Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and I am listening to Fangirl right now. Maybe I did them out of order, but I need more Snow and Baz. Duh, right? So I have a question for those of you who are active in more than one fandom, where do you start when you are looking for the good stuff to read? I don't have patience to wade through the mediocre! It sounds bad, I know. But I literally fell into HD I the middle of Erised '15, which y'all know how quality that was so, yeah, I'm super spoiled when it comes to the good stuff. I didn't even have to work to find it. So I don't know how! Lol. So where's a girl to start?

When I enter a new fandom, the first thing I do is think about if I have an fandom friends that read in the fandom that might have recs for me. Sometimes fandom friends (like me!) post multi-fandom recs on their journal, and I can start there. Or sometimes I know a friend reads a lot in that fandom, and I may just message them to see if they have recs.
Once that's done, I check out AO3. I filter by the fandom (and pairing if I'm only interested in a certain pairing), and then I usually also filter by Explicit, Completed, English language. Once that's done, I sort by Kudos. This generally yields that high quality fic you were talking about. Sometimes I will also try filtering by comments/hits as well, as occasionally those will pull up slightly different fics than the kudos sort, though they are generally mostly the same. Then I just sort of read down the line. :D
For fandoms that I am getting into late and that I know are older (Inception or Harry Potter even, for example) I also will google rec lists and start poking through those. This is because some fic might not have made it onto AO3, and because older fic that was only recently uploaded onto AO3 may be brilliant, but still have a relatively low kudos count.
LOL, not sure if that is what you were looking for, but hope that helps. :D

I wish I were reading more HD right now so that I could rec some to you. Definitely read Tropes (hehehhh xD). Whenever I start in a new fandom, I pretty much feel like you do! I'm like, uh, where do I go and what do I do??? I remember trying to start reading Sterek and how lost I felt. I guess the first thing I do is ask for recs here on LJ and then Google search "Sterek Rec Lists" or some variety of that phrase, and then read through summaries and keep downloading random fics from AO3 onto my phone. Are you looking for Simon/Baz fics right now or Drarry?
